PSNI warning after increase in thefts around ATMs in Belfast city centre

Police in Belfast have issued advice after an increase in theft cases from people using ATM machines in the city centre.

Taking to their Police Belfast City Centre Facebook page, the PSNI has asked that the public be vigilant when using cash machines.

If they are concerned with any of the people standing nearby to a cashpoint, the public should take extra precautions to avoid becoming a victim of crime.

A spokesperson for the Police Service of Northern Ireland said: "We have seen an increase in thefts from persons using and close to ATMs.

"If you are using an ATM, be aware of who is around you.

"Conceal your pin number as you input it and put your card and cash away safely before leaving the ATM.

"If you notice anything suspicious about the ATM or you feel uncomfortable with any of the people standing nearby, do not use the ATM."
