PSG set to decide on ex-Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger as Man United eye Mauricio Pochettino

Former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane reportedly wants to work with Arsenal icon Arsene Wenger should he take the reins at Paris Saint-Germain.

The three-time Champions League winner is apparently the front-runner to take the reins in the French capital as Les Parisiens attempt to find a potential replacement for ex-Spurs mastermind Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentine has long been linked with a move to Manchester United - with the latest reports suggesting that an agreement that will see him move to Old Trafford at the end of the season is close.

Whilst Zidane has been spoken of as a potential replacement for Pochettino at the Parc des Princes, it appears that the former midfielder has one particular demand involving Arsenal legend Wenger.

According to Foot Mercato, via Get French Football News, the ex-Real Madrid man is not a huge fan of PSG’s current sporting director Leonardo and would instead be keen to work with Wenger in the French capital.

Currently acting as FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development, any appointment with the French giants would represent the 72-year-old’s first return to club football since his departure from the Emirates Stadium back in 2018.

Whether a backroom role at PSG interests him - and whether the club hierarchy would be open to appointing him remains to be seen.

Intriguingly however, Wenger admitted recently that he would potentially be interested in getting back involved with the game so long as silverware would be on offer.

Talking to Le Parisien last month, he said: “I’m still interested in experiencing sport at a high level and the quest for results.

“Even if it might not be directly on the pitch… Being part of a group that has to win is something that interests me.”

It goes without saying that glory would certainly be the target with the French giants despite having missed out on the Ligue 1 title to Lille last season.

They currently sit ten points clear at the top of the current standings.

However, Wenger has also previously stopped short of confirming that there was any truth behind a potential managerial link-up with the French outfit.

He continued: “It’s pure and simple invention. Even if I have a very good relationship with PSG.”
