Even if you’re getting the physical edition of Insomniac’s new Marvel game, the team recommends downloading the Spider-Man 2 day one patch before you start playing. Insomniac made the announcement on their official Twitter page and said that, while you can play the game right out of the box, the patch is important for making the opening hours smoother.
“The disc contains the entire game and is playable from start to finish with no patch or online requirement,” Insomniac said in the statement. “But for the best experience, we highly encourage physical/disc-based players to download update Version 1.001.002 on launch day – prior to experiencing the opening mission of the game for the first time.”

“Digital players – don’t worry, if you pre-load the digital version of the game, you’ll get 1.001.002 as your pre-loaded version.”
Insomniac didn’t mention what these refinements are, but the team said some of them include accessibility options. The team continued working on these after Spider-Man 2 went gold in late September 2023, hence why they aren’t included on the disc copies printed from the master disc.
Spider-Man 2 launches exclusively for the PS5 on Oct. 20, 2023, and promises a bigger, bolder adventure with more personal stories, a more dynamic New York, and even better powers for Peter and Miles.
Sony is also releasing a Spider-Man 2-themed DualSense, cover plates for the PS5, and a whole PS5 bundle, all of which feature Venom’s inkiness snaking its way across Spider-Man’s signature red.
