The entire country is set to be absolutely drenched by record-breaking rainfall this week, so everyone prepare for second winter.
Every Australian state and territory will be hit by the unseasonable rain, with the north-west tropical region potentially due to face record-breaking downpours.
Western Australia will be the first hit on Sunday, before the rain moves across the middle of the country and towards the east from Monday to Thursday.
The Pilbara and Kimberley regions are set to face up to 100 millimetres of rain over the next couple of days, which is extremely unseasonable for the area which usually gets a maximum of 5mm during the entire month of September.
Unusually heavy rainfall is also forecast for Broome and Port Headland in the country’s west.
South Australia and Northern Territory are due to see heavy rain on Monday and Tuesday, before Tasmania, Victoria and New South Wales will be hit by light to moderate rainfall on Wednesday.
Long-term predictions for Thursday onwards are less certain but experts suggest the rain pattern will head towards central Queensland.
This week’s predicted rainfall is likely the first of a number of spring soakings we’ve got in store over the coming months.
According to Weatherzone, the nationwide soaking could last up to 10 days.
“This weather system will cause a nation-wide soaking that could last for around seven to 10 days,” Weatherzone said in a statement.
“Some areas in WA and the NT that typically receive 20 to 50 mm of rain in September could pick up about 50 to 100 mm from this event.”
Weatherzone warns that the unseasonable rain will increase the risk of travel disruptions and flash flooding across much of the country.
Aussies should keep tabs on local weather warnings and exercise caution during heavy rainfall.
If you’re like me and aren’t ready to brave the elements, it’s probably a great week to convince your boss to let you work from home.
