Provocative Channel 4 show to investigate threat to disability rights

  • A new Channel 4 documentary titled The Experiment tests whether the British public can recognise Nazi ideology when repackaged as a progressive care model for disabled people.
  • Hosted by actor Mat Fraser and activist Sophie Morgan, the programme sees members of the public tour a fake residential facility named SegriLife House.
  • Visitors are unaware that the protocols enacted by disabled and neurodivergent actors inside SegriLife House are based on Nazi propaganda and policies from 1930s and 1940s Germany.
  • Fraser and Morgan also visit Austria's Hartheim Castle to recount the history of Aktion T4, the Nazi programme responsible for the mass murder of disabled people.
  • The presenters expressed hope that the show will highlight current threats to disability rights and demonstrate how easily historical atrocities could be repeated.
