The man, identified as Wilber Rafael Garcés Pérez, was shot in the torso and taken to a hospital in serious but stable condition, according to officials. His lawyer said Garcés Pérez had arrived in the US from Venezuela about two years ago and was working as a DoorDash delivery driver when he encountered ICE agents.
DHS says Venezuelan man had final removal order
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said Homeland Security Investigations, with assistance from the FBI, is leading the investigation into the shooting. DHS said the Venezuelan man had entered the US illegally under the Biden administration and had a final order of removal. The agency said he was in stable condition and remained in federal custody pending removal.
