Protesting wrestlers’ bid to renew agitation thwarted by Delhi Police

NEW DELHI: Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik’s bid to renew their agitation following fears of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh-backed panel sweeping the upcoming federation (WFI) elections was thwarted by Delhi Police after it invoked Section 144 CrPC in areas nearby Rajghat – the venue chosen by the grapplers to hold their much-anticipated press conference on Thursday.

Later, the protesting wrestlers’ effort to shift the venue of their media conference to Master Chandgiram Akhara in Civil Lines also failed after the facility owners denied them permission following police’s intervention. The wrestlers have now planned to hold the conference on Friday afternoon at a venue yet to be decided.
