The Georgia Bulldogs always have a lot of talent at the running back position. Georgia returns a few key pieces the running back room in 2023.
The Dawgs lost last season’s leading rusher, Kenny McIntosh, to the NFL draft. McIntosh was also Georgia’s top receiving back.
However, Georgia returns the remainder of its running back room from 2022. The Bulldogs had some depth concerns in spring due to injuries, but the running back room looks pretty strong now.
Who in Georgia’s running back room is projected to start in 2023?
RB1 (rushing downs): Kendall Milton
Kendall Milton should be Georgia’s lead running back in rushing situations in 2023. Milton needs to stay healthy to maximize his senior season. He missed two games last season due to injury. Milton missed much of spring with a hamstring injury. However, he’s expected to be healthy for the regular season.
Kendall Milton averaged a cool 7.0 yards per carry as a junior. He should see more carries this season.
2022 stats: 85 carries for 592 rushing yards and nine total touchdowns
RB1 (passing downs): Daijun Edwards
The running back position plays a critical role in Georgia’s passing game. The Bulldogs’ third-leading receiver in 2022 was Kenny McIntosh. Who will replace his production?
We project Daijun Edwards to be Georgia’s top receiving back in 2023. Georgia fans should expect to see the 5-foot-10, 200-pound back on the field more often than Kendall Milton in obvious passing downs. Edwards was Georgia’s second-leading rusher in 2022.
2022 rushing stats: 140 carries, 769 rushing yards, and seven touchdowns
2022 receiving stats: 14 receptions for 101 receiving yards
RB3: Branson Robinson
Branson Robinson could be Georgia’s top back in rushing situations in 2023 despite being a sophomore. Robinson is that talented. He runs with a bruising style and is coming off a two touchdown performance in the national championship.
2022 stats: 68 carries for 330 yards and three touchdowns
RB4: Roderick Robinson
Robinson got a lot of carries this spring and is positioned to continue getting looks in the fall. Robinson impressed in the spring game with 11 carries for 42 rushing yards. Robinson is a true freshman and former four-star recruit.
2022 stats (high school): 2,378 rushing yards and 37 touchdowns
Best of the rest
Georgia redshirt freshman running back Andrew Paul is recovering from a torn ACL. Paul figures to be brought along slowly, but could have a larger role as the season progresses.
Running back Len’Neth Whitehead, a transfer from Tennessee, could be a factor for the Dawgs. Kyron Jones, a former track star and three-star recruit in the class of 2023, could also make an impact as a true freshman. Walk-ons Sevaughn Clark and Cash Jones will be in the mix too.
