Professor threatens man and chases him with machete saying 'I’m gonna chop you up'

A woman has surrendered to police after threatening a man with a machete saying she would "chop him up".

Shellyne Rodriguez, a 45-year-old former arts professor at Hunter College, New York, turned herself in to the police today after an incident where she threatened a journalist by placing a machete knife against his neck.

The alarming incident took place on Tuesday outside Rodriguez's apartment in the Bronx and was captured on camera.

In the footage, Rodriguez can be seen brandishing the machete while making menacing remarks.

Following the incident, Rodriguez surrendered to the 43rd Precinct in the Bronx at around 7am on Thursday.

The reporter, Reuven Fenton the New York Post, had approached Rodriguez to inquire about a previous incident where she verbally attacked anti-abortion demonstrators.

In response, the agitated professor shouted obscenities and issued a terrifying threat, stating that she would "chop up" the reporter with the machete.

In a video, she can be heard saying: "Get the f**k away from my door, or I’m gonna chop you up with this machete."

Once the reporter and photographer left the building, Rodriguez reportedly chased them down the street, still armed with the machete, demanding they leave the block immediately.

Running after them, she shouted: "If I see you on this block one more f**king time, you’re gonna… Get the f**k off the block! Get the f**k out of here, yo!"

Whether and what charges she is facing are not known at this time.

According to the New York Post, she also hit Mr Fenton in his shins during the chase.

Following the incident, Hunter College terminated Rodriguez's employment.

The professor was previously captured lashing out at a group of students who had set up an information table opposing abortions inside the Hunter College building.

In the video, Rodriguez is seen cursing at the students and tossing their pamphlets off the table, accusing them of triggering her students.

At the time, a labour union chapter had expressed support for Rodriguez, claiming her actions were justified in the face of what they considered to be dangerous propaganda.
