Priyanka Chopra, who has acted in more than 60 Bollywood films, recently recalled being body shamed in the industry because of her complexion. The actress also revealed that she was called 'black cat' and 'dusky'.
In an interview with a news portal, Priyanka said that she faced body shaming when she started out in Bollywood. The actress added that she was called 'black cat' and 'dusky' in a country where literally everyone was brown. According to her, she had to work harder than her counterparts even though she believed that she was more talented than them and all this because she was not fair skinned.
Elaborating further, Priyanka added all that probably had to do with India's colonial past. According to her, it has not even been 100 years since India shed the British Raj so people here are still holding on to it. It is up to our generation to be able to cut those ties and change it so the next generation doesn't inherit the equity placed on light skin, the actress told BBC.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Priyanka will next be seen in an upcoming web series, 'Citadel'. Apart from this, she is also a part of upcoming Bollywood film, 'Jee Le Zaraa'. To be directed by Farhan Akhtar, the film will bring together PeeCee, Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif for the first time.
