BAREILLY: In a bid to provide a major relief to the patients in Bareilly division and Uttarakhand, a private medical college and hospital in the city has started a kidney transplant facility.
With this initiative, the institution is catering to the needs of patients coming from far-off places.
Om Prakash, 42, a resident of Kashipur (Uttarakhand), was extremely relieved after undergoing a successful kidney transplant operation at the medical college in Bhojipura.
Till now, the patients had to travel all the way to Delhi or Lucknow for their treatment and had to face inconvenience, Aditya Murti, director of the medical college told TOI.
Dr Sanjay Kumar, who is leading the team of kidney transplant physicians at the college, told us that the kidney transplant is only required when the patient is in a chronic dialysis stage.
If the transplant is done within a year, the survival rate is as high as 95 per cent, Dr Kumar said.
Besides, after a kidney transplant, a patient doesn’t need to undergo dialysis for nearly 15 years and a woman can even conceive which is not possible when on dialysis, he added.
