Private jet crashes on runway during emergency landing at Dominican Republic airport

A private jet crashed on a runway during an emergency landing at an airport in the Dominican Republic.

Footage shows the Gulfstream G200 attempting to touch down at La Romana International Airport, Dominican Republic on Sunday (7 June). It then erupted into a fireball, before huge plumes of black smoke started rising into the sky.

The pilot and co-pilot were killed in the crash, the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute said. Nobody else was on board.

"The aircraft declared an emergency while approximately 16 nautical miles southwest of La Romana" and crashed as it was returning to the airport, the statement added. It was en route to Austin, Texas.
