Priti Patel visits Olivia Pratt-Korbel shooting scene

Home Secretary Priti Patel visited Merseyside today, just hours after a man was arrested on suspicion of killing Olivia Pratt-Korbel.

Ms Patel travelled to Dovecot this afternoon to walk around the scene of the shooting with Liverpool Chief Constabe Serena Kennedy where a cordon is still in place while forensic work takes place. The visit also came after she offered additional resources to Merseyside Police earlier in the week as officers and detectives searched for the gunman who fatally shot Olivia.

The nine-year-old was killed when a gunman tried to force his way into her home at around 10pm on Monday, August 22 after a man he was chasing forced himself into the home. The gunman opened fire, with a bullet hitting Olivia's mum, Cheryl, in her arm before hitting Olivia in her chest.

The gunman then shot the man he was chasing, 35-year-old Joseph Nee, twice before sprinting off. A dark-coloured Audi appeared at the house to collect Nee, leaving Olivia and her mum behind.

She said on Tuesday: "This morning, I have spoken to the Chief Constable for Merseyside Police about the tragic shooting in Liverpool last night. My heartfelt condolences go out to the family of the 9-year-old girl who has died.

"It is important that anyone with information comes forward to assist the police with their investigations. The force has my full support and will receive any additional resources they need."

Earlier today, Merseyside Police confirmed that a 36-year-old man from the Huyton area was arrested on suspicion of the murder of Olivia Pratt-Korbel, as well as on suspicion of two counts of attempted murder.
