Prisoner escapes from Rockhampton Hospital sparking search by police, Corrective Services

Queensland Corrective Services are searching for a prisoner who has escaped from Rockhampton Base Hospital.

Barry Kenneth Bloomfield left the hospital at about 9:10am this morning and was last seen on Canning Street.

He is currently serving a prison sentence of two years and six months for assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Police say he removed his handcuffs and fled on foot.

A dog squad is involved in the search. 

Bloomfield is described as 176 centimetres tall, of medium build and dark complexion.

Anyone who sees him should not approach him, and instead should contact police on triple-0.

The hospital has been contacted for comment.

It comes after an elderly patient with a medical condition that can cause confusion walked out of the hospital and disappeared last month. 

Eighty-year-old Peter Roach was an inpatient at the time of his disappearance.

He is still missing.
