A male prisoner has died after being found unresponsive in his cell at a prison in north Queensland.
Queensland Corrective Services says the 57-year-old was found in his cell at Townsville Correctional Centre on Monday afternoon.
He was alone at the time and QCS officers tried to resuscitate him using CPR, but could not.
When Queensland Ambulance Services arrived they were also unable to the revive the man.
"Our condolences go to the man's family," QCS told AAP in a statement on Tuesday.
"The officers who responded to the incident have been praised for their efforts to revive the man, and have been offered support."
Queensland Corrective Services and police are preparing a report for the Coroner.
