Prisoner at Eastwood Park appeared 'oversedated' twice on days leading up to her death

A prisoner appeared to be 'oversedated' twice on the days leading up to her death, according to a new report.

Joanne Harrison died from the toxic effects of a combination of prescription drugs on November 23, 2019, at HMP Eastwood Park in South Gloucestershire. The 46-year-old - who was in custody charged with assault and possession of an offensive weapon - had only arrived in the prison four days earlier on November 19.

The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman (PPO) has now published an investigation into her death which has identified some concerns and made some recommendations. However, the report found that the clinical care Ms Harrison received at Eastwood Park was equivalent to that she could have expected to receive in the community.
