Two prison officers have appeared in court charged with manslaughter over the death of an inmate at HMP Liverpool.
Anthony Paine took his own life in his cell at the Walton jail on February 19 2018. Following an investigation by Merseyside Police, the Crown Prosecution Service authorised charges against two members of staff in connection with the dad's death.
Custodial manager Paul Fairhurst, of Belmont Drive in Chorley, and senior officer Rachel Jameson, of Middleton Drive in Prescot, have both been charged with gross negligence manslaughter and health and safety offences. Court lists state that this involved "failing to take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and other persons who may have been affected by your acts and omissions at work".
