The principals for this year’s Gatehouse Riding of the Marches have been announced.
Cameron Burgess will be Fleet Lad, Claire Reid Fleet Lass and Jess Fergusson Standard Bearer for the historic event, which takes place on Sunday, August 6.
Cameron works as a kitchen supervisor in Kirkcudbright and tries to support as many local rideouts as possible. He has previously worked in Iceland as a horseback tour guide and hopes to ride new horse Cassie this year.
Claire went to Gatehouse Primary and Kirkcudbright Academy and is now a nurse at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary. Her passion has always been horses, having taken part in the Riding of the Marches since she was a child.
She also enjoys showing her Shetland pony Freddie in hand at local shows and is looking forward to riding her horse Munro in the event.
Jess is self-employed, having studied at the University of Glasgow’s Dumfries campus for her honours degree in environmental science. She has volunteered with the Gatehouse Riding of the Marches committee as a member. She supplies horses and animals to the film industry, including to Netflix for The Crown.
Her grandparents live in Castle Douglas and she will be riding one of her Highland ponies.
