Prince William reportedly used a fake name whilst studying at the University of St Andrews University, where he first met wife Kate Middleton, in a bid to avoid the media attention on him from distracting from his studies.
The Prince and Princess of Wales were both students at the Fife establishment, where an agreement was put in place that allowed the heir to the throne to give his full focus on studying for his master of arts degree in Geography.
Future wife-to-be Kate Middleton was in Scotland at the same institution back in 2001, studying for her degree in art history, when the senior royal couple first met.
William signed up to enrol at the university, which has been hailed among the top in the UK alongside Oxford and Cambridge, under the name of William Wales.
However, things were taken a step further when, as a student, he decided to go by the more commonplace name of Steve, according to reports in the Mirror.
In their first year in 2001, William and Kate lived a few doors apart at St Salvator's hall of residence at St Andrews and became friendly, socialising together and playing tennis. Kate first caught the Prince's eye when she strode down the catwalk in a sheer dress for a charity fashion show as before that they had just been good pals.
Prince William and Kate tied the knot at Westminster Abbey in 2011 and now share their three children together - Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
The couple are viewed as very highly regarded members of the monarchy, with William having a very prominent role as next in line to the throne after his father King Charles, following the death of the late Queen Elizabeth last year.
We previously reported how Kate once didn't imagine herself as a royal, when she was quizzed by school pupils at a charity event at St Katherine’s School in Bristol.
She spoke of how much it all took her by surprise having not expected her life to venture down that path, but that she "fell in love" with William over the years and says being a royal was something she "had to learn."
