Prince William's rude birthday cake prank from Diana left him 'red-faced' but Harry loved it

Prince William celebrates his 41st birthday today and will no doubt be tucking into some delicious cake later on to mark the special occasion.

Today is the Prince of Wales' first birthday since his father, King Charles took the throne and appointed him his new title following Queen Elizabeth's death last September.

His wife, Kate Middleton is likely to have a thoughtful gift organised for him and a cake to celebrate the day with their three kids, the Mirror reports.

However, the chosen cake probably won't be anything like the hilarious one that his late mother Diana arranged for William on his 13th birthday which left him completely red faced and made a very fond memory for Prince Harry.

Princess Diana played a little joke on her son when he finally became a teenager and presented him with a rude birthday cake which made a young William turn 'bright red'.

Instead of opting for a traditional Victoria sponge or a caterpillar cake, the former Princess of Wales ordered a boobs cake for William's birthday.

Former Buckingham Palace chef, Darren McGrady, recalled to Hello! magazine: "I came into work that morning and went down to the refrigerator, opened the door and I was just confronted with the biggest pair of boobs I've ever seen in my life.

"The Princess had ordered a boobs cake for William's 13th birthday.

"The Princess loved embarrassing people in the nicest way, in a fun way, whether it was telling a dirty, risqué joke – which usually got me. William just went bright red."

Prince William Arthur Philip Louis of Wales was born second in line to the throne at St Mary's Hospital, Paddington at 9:03pm on June 21, 1982 weighing 7lb 11/2oz.

He was the first born son of the Prince and Princess of Wales and accompanied his parents on his first six-week official visit to Australia and New Zealand which was a break from royal tradition when he was just nine months old.

William and younger brother Harry were just 15 and 12 when they lost their mother Diana to a tragic car crash in Paris in 1997 just one year after Charles and Diana's divorce was finalised.

The two young Princes walked behind the Princess' coffin during a funeral procession through London.

William went on to meet the love of his life and now future Queen, Kate Middleton at St Andrews University in Fife Scotland and the pair married in 2011 after dating for over eight years.

On the morning of his wedding, the late Queen Elizabeth II made her grandson the Duke of Cambridge and after her death last year, he and Kate took on the new title of Prince and Princess of Wales which formerly belonged to Charles and Diana.

The royal couple now have three children with their firstborn George who is also a future King arriving in 2013, followed by Charlotte in 2015 and Louis in 2018.

The title Prince of Wales has long been used for heirs to the throne as William is now but it is not an automatic right and is the monarch's choice as to whether or not they award it.
