Prince William's feud with Andrew - royal 'banishment' and birthday snub

The Royal Family has been caught up in another rumoured dispute this week after reports that Prince Andrew and Prince William are at loggerheads over royal residences.

It was reported that the Queen's son wanted to secure Adelaide Cottage as a grace and favour home for his youngest daughter, Princess Eugenie, her husband Jack Brooksbank and their baby son August.

But the residence, just a short walk from the Queen's private apartments at Windsor Castle, has also reportedly been eyed up by Kate and Wills.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are said to be considering a move from Kensington Palace to Windsor in the summer months to be closer to the Queen.

Eugenie and Jack are currently living in Frogmore Cottage - where Harry and Meghan had settled in Windsor before jetting off to LA.

The Duke of York and Prince William may end up locking horns over Adelaide Cottage - and it wouldn't be the first time the pair have reportedly fallen out.

Prince Andrew's 62nd birthday in February of this year fell flat after several senior royals failed to publicly wish him a happy birthday - including his nephew William.

The Mail on Sunday reported The Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William were all absent from public well-wishes, just days after the Duke of York had settled a civil sexual assault case in The US.

The settlement, thought to amount to up to £10 million, includes a "substantial donation" to a charity owned by his accuser, Virginia Giuffre.

Ms Giuffre alleged she was trafficked by Epstein and forced to have sex with the Duke of York three times when she was 17 years old - something he has always denied.

Andrew hasn't been awarded the honour of having flags flown on town halls on his birthday since he took a step back from Royal duties in 2019 when his friendship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein came under scrutiny.

His ties to Epstein, who was found dead in his prison cell in August 2019 while awaiting trial on trafficking charges, have not gone down well with Prince William, a royal expert has claimed.

In a new book serialised in The Mail on Sunday, Robert Jobson reported the Duke of Cambridge took a key role in deciding how the Royal Family would deal with the fallout of Andrew's legal battle.

In William at 40: The Making of a Modern Monarch, Jobson claimed William "was able to take the emotion out of the situation," while The Queen and Prince Charles reportedly found the decision difficult to make.

When it looked like the case would end up going to trial, Andrew was stripped of his royal patronages and military titles and stopped using the style HRH.

A source told the author: "The decision over the Duke of York was very difficult for the Queen and the Prince of Wales.

"They were obviously closer to Andrew than his nephew was. He could evaluate just how damaging his uncle was to the long-term future of the Monarchy."

Another said: "There will be no public role or comeback for York, if the Duke of Cambridge has any input on the matter – and let me assure you, he does. He should be banished, as far as Prince William is concerned."
