Prince William brings back beard in first engagement after summer

Prince William returned to royal duties and unveiled his new facial hair after bringing back his much debated beard during a visit to a charity in London.

The Prince of Wales was at a homelessness project in which rough sleepers had created artworks for an exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery.

The Homewards project, which aims to end homelessness, is supported by William.

William triggered a debate on social media a few weeks ago after he and Kate took to Instagram to congratulate Team GB on their performance at the Paris Olympics with the heir to the throne sporting stubble.

The prince, who was dressed in a polo shirt, said in the clip: "Well done on all you achieved".

But those watching online seemed to be more interested in his facial hair, comments attached to the post suggested.

Then days later on his Balmoral holiday he was seen clean-shaven, with the beard gone.

Responding to his ditching of facial hair some jokes they were 'in mourning' and liked the look. At the gallery on Thursday he gave them a boost by restoring the stubble.

William spoke to some of the young people who helped create the artwork from doors at the exhibition.

The event Homelessness: Reframed, is an exhibition features sculptures, photographs and everyday objects given a new life by artists, many who have experienced homelesseness.

Mick Clarke, chief executive of homelessness charity said: "What I love about the Reframed exhibition is this gives an opportunity again to put a spotlight on how we've got to get homelessness away from something society thinks is inevitable and something that we manage, to something that can be prevented from happening."

The Passage, which William supports as royal patron, helped the Homewards team find artists for the exhibition, and its chief executive added: "You have this exhibition where it's taking people on the journey of homelessness and the trauma people have been through, but also the positivity coming out the other end."

The visit came after William and Harry both attended a memorial of their uncle Lord Fellowes in Norfolk last week.

Meanwhile William will be heading to Wales next week to celebrate Welsh sport and culture and visit a primary school, a women's rugby team and the Wales Air Ambulance.

It remains to be seen if he will keep the facial hair.
