Prince William and Harry to appear separately at Diana Legacy Award in London

Both the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex will take part in a ceremony paying tribute to their late mother at the Diana Legacy Award.

William will attend the event at the Science Museum in London on Thursday night in person, where he is expected to give a speech to mark the charity’s 25th anniversary and present awards to 20 recipients. He is expected to appear without the Princess of Wales who is recovering from surgery.

Harry will then join a video call with the winners, according to reports. However, his involvement will only take place after William has left the ceremony.

They previously often appeared together in person to pose with the award winners, but relations have grown frosty since their well-publicised falling out, with Prince Harry accusing Prince William in his memoir of once physically knocking him to the floor in an altercation.

The Diana Award was set up to promote the princess’s belief that young people have the power to change the world for the better.

Dr Tessy Ojo, chief executive of the Diana Award, told The Times: “It’s a privilege to have the support of both the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex — particularly as we mark our 25th anniversary year.”

While a spokesman for the award told The Telegraph that Harry will be a “key part” of the celebration.

“He is scheduled to speak with the award recipients, virtually, on the evening of the awards to celebrate their accomplishments,” he said.

A Kensington Palace spokesman said: “The Prince [of Wales] will meet key staff and supporters of the Diana Award, before joining the ceremony where he will hear about the recipients' work, make a short speech and present Legacy Awards to this year's winners.”

The brothers’ relationship also soured after Prince Harry's 2018 wedding to his wife Meghan, whom Prince William allegedly called “difficult”, “rude” and “abrasive”, according to the Duke of Sussex’s memoir, Spare.

An explosive interview the Duke and Duchess gave to Oprah Winfrey also damaged relations between the couple and other members of the royal family.

It comes as the Princess of Wales is said to be recovering well from abdominal surgery.

However, she stoked controversy over the tweaking of the photo taken by Prince William which led to picture agencies “killing” the image when the manipulation was discovered.

She was on Tuesday said to be “saddened” over the row.

Palace insiders insisted the “entirely innocent” mistake was an attempt to make the family portrait the best it could be and said she now hopes the row will die down after she apologised.

A source told the Standard: “It is all very sad. She is still recuperating from abdominal surgery. She was just trying to make the photo look better.”
