Prince Harry says psychedelic drugs helped him 'deal with traumas and pains of the past'

Prince Harry has admitted using marijuana and psychedelic drugs to help him "deal with the traumas and pains of the past".

The Duke of Sussex, 38, said the drugs have become a "fundamental" part of his life after he realised they brought him "a sense of relaxation, relief, comfort".

Speaking about his use of hallucinogens, Harry said: "It was the cleaning of the windscreen, the removal of life’s filters — these layers of filters.

"It removed it all for me and brought me a sense of relaxation, relief, comfort, a lightness that I managed to hold back for a period of time."

During an online chat with trauma expert Gabor Maté, Harry opened up about how he started taking psychedelics.

"I started doing it recreationally and then started to realize how good it was for me," he said.

Harry then added: "I would say it is one of the fundamental parts of my life that changed me and helped me deal with the traumas and the pains of the past.

"They're unlocking so much of what we've suppressed."

The royal also admitted that he had used cocaine, but said it "didn't do anything for me" and admitted it was "more of a social thing".

He added: "It gave me a sense of belonging for sure.

"It also made me feel different to the way I was feeling, which is kind of the point."

In his debut memoir Spare, Prince Harry also claimed he attended a "wild party" at Courteney Cox's mansion where he ended up eating some black diamond magic mushroom chocolates.

He said he stayed at Courteney's home when he thought she was "travelling on a job", but she ended up arriving out of nowhere.

Harry said he ate the mushrooms and washed them down with tequila, before hallucinating that the silver bin in the bathroom started staring at him and had a huge grin.

Friends star Courteney, 58, has now shed some light on the incident.

"He did stay here for a couple of days, probably two or three. He's a really nice person," she said in a new interview.

"I'm not saying there were mushrooms! I definitely wasn’t passing them out," she clarified to Variety.
