Prince Harry's 'warning' to King Charles over daughter Lilibet's birthday

The Duke of Sussex reportedly told King Charles to be buy his daughter a "less extravagant" gift on her second birthday. Prince Harry is said to have "warned" the King about the gift, which was intended to be something the youngster could use forever and be the "ultimate surprise".

According to OK Magazine, a source explained that the King had "his aides looking at custom-made cubby houses, similar to what the queen and Princess Margaret had when they were girls.” But it's not clear as to whether Charles listened to his son's wishes, or went all out for his young granddaughter, reports the Mirror.

The insider added: “He wants to give Lili something she will use and be hers. She’ll remember it forever – it’s going to be the ultimate surprise.” Royal family sources have remained tight-lipped about Lili's party, although Harry’s lawyer pointed out in court on Monday that he was unavailable to testify that day after taking a later flight from LA in order to celebrate his daughter’s birthday.

It's been reported that her party took place at Harry and Meghan’s £16million Montecito home. And despite the King's private plans for his granddaughter's birthday celebrations, he - alongside other senior royals - noticeably chose not to share a public birthday tribute on Twitter, as is usually the custom.

A royal source told OK! Magazine it was because they “don’t mark the birthdays of non-working members”. “They, of course, wish Lilibet a very happy birthday, but nothing will be put out on any channels,” the insider claimed.

It marks a different policy to that of the late Queen Elizabeth II, who honoured her great-granddaughter with a Twitter post for her first birthday last June. “Wishing Lilibet a very Happy 1st Birthday!” the Queen shared via her official social media account at the time.

However, since then, the relationship between Harry and Meghan and his family has plunged to its lowest point yet following the release of their Netflix docu-series and his tell-all memoir, Spare.
