Prince Harry shows tell-tale signals of "defiance" and "suppressed anger" in an explosive trailer for his ITV interview, according to a body language expert.
In a 20-second teaser for the chat, which will be broadcast on Sunday night ahead of the release of his memoir Spare, Harry says he wants his father and brother back.
It comes amid a rift between him and his dad King Charles and brother Prince William with Harry quitting as a royal and moving to the US with wife Meghan Markle.
In a series of clips from the ITV conversation, Harry tells presenter Tom Bradby: “It never needed to be this way”, and refers to “the leaking and the planting” before adding: “I want a family, not an institution.”
He also says “they feel as though it is better to keep us somehow as the villains” and “have shown absolutely no willingness to reconcile”, although it is unclear who he is referring to.
And according to body language expert Judi James, despite Harry's message seeming like a plea for reconciliation, his gestures show something else completely.
She told the Mirror: "In a powerful moment Harry tells Tom two things: ‘I would like to get my father back’ and ‘I would like to have my brother back.’
"But he makes these statements despite behaving in a way that could ensure that never happens. The message sounds like a plea but it is not presented like that.
"When Harry says ‘I would like my father back’ he uses a stare and a lip clamp that make him look defiant. When he references William he looks away with a head tilt that forms a shrug. Both seem to suggest he is waiting for them to make the moves.
"We are also shown a staccato blink, a one-shoulder shrug and a head shake when he talks about ‘no willingness to reconcile’, which all suggest suppressed anger.
"It’s hard to understand Harry’s goals from this clip. He makes the family dynamics look far more ‘Game of Thrones’ than anything empathetic or conciliatory."
However, Harry's interview with ITV is not the only one that is being broadcast on Sunday.
He has also sat down with Anderson Cooper for US TV show 60 Minutes, and a trailer for that chat shows him talking about the “betrayal” by Buckingham Palace.
And according to Judi, in this clip, Harry seems less assured and shows signals that he is uncomfortable.
She added: "Harry looks less assured in this trailer with his host both questioning him and interrupting him at one point.
"His eye expression looks more wary and defensive and we can see four gestures that would seem to confirm this wariness and discomfort: He licks his lip, he raises one hand to rub his knuckles against his nose, he employs some heavy swallowing and he sniffs loudly.
"The hand-to-the-face gesture looks like a cut-off or partial face-covering ritual that people tend to use when they are uncomfortable with the things they are saying.
"Despite this awkwardness, there are still some cues that suggest anger and indignation as he begins to throw out sound bites to try to get his message across, like 'Briefings and leakings', 'Never complain, never explain' and he pauses before saying to gain maximum attention: 'Silence is betrayal'."
