When Prince Harry decided Meghan Markle was the woman for him, it was time for her to meet the family. And of course dating a prince means meeting the in-laws is a pretty big deal.
The couple have spoken about those all important first meetings with the King, Queen Camilla, Prince William and Kate several times over the years, but there was another family meeting that Meghan was really looking forward to.
Harry is still extremely close to his late mother's family, and Meghan said connecting with them was "very important" to her.
Diana had four siblings, however her brother John died when he was a baby a year before Diana was born. She grew up with sisters Sarah and Jane and a brother, Charles.
William and Harry were always very close to their aunts and uncles, and their relationship continued after their parents split and their mother's death.
So when Harry realised Meghan was someone special, he was keen for them to meet her.
The couple spoke about that important first meeting in their engagement interview back in 2017. Asked if she had the family, Meghan replied: "I have! On both sides of his family. His mom's side as well which has been really important to me too."
Meghan said the family had been really welcoming, adding: "But yes the family has been great, and over the past year and a half we've just had a really nice time getting to know them and progressively helping me feel a part of not just the institution but also part of the family, which has been really, really special."
However a royal expert claims Harry was left disappointed when his aunts failed to see the similarities he felt Meghan shared with his mother.
In his book Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors, Tom Bower wrote: "He was disappointed. No one agreed that his vulnerable mother had anything in common with his girlfriend."
Bower claims that the sisters also feared Meghan wouldn't fit in with the royal family, and says Charles even stepped in to warn his nephew about marrying her.
He writes: "Three times married, Spencer cautioned his nephew to reconsider his haste towards marriage. His advice provoked a bitter reaction. 'This was going to be really hard,’ Harry would later reflect on establishing Meghan’s place in the family."
Despite the concerns, the Spencer family attended the royal wedding in force, including Diana's nieces and nephews.
Keen to keep Diana's family involved in key moments, the couple included them in the official photos from Archie's christening.
Sarah and Jane sat alongside Charles, Camilla, Kate and William for the stunning picture, taken at Windsor Castle.
