Defiant Prince Harry says he has “absolutely no regrets” over his Netflix show.
A source close to the prince says he was “delighted” to see the first three episodes of the documentary air on Thursday, despite days of negative headlines since.
The insider claims Harry wants King Charles and Prince William to watch the show to get a full understanding of the struggles he and Meghan have faced.
And he is keen to make “some kind of peace” with them, despite reports suggesting the show has driven a deeper wedge between him and the royals.
“Harry is delighted with the narrative of the documentary and how he and Meghan came across,” said the source, who is a close friend of his late mother, Princess Diana.
“The reason for doing this was to share their truth on their lives.
“He feels it told the story he wanted the world to hear and has absolutely no regrets.”
The couple controversially quit royal duties and emigrated to the US in March 2020. They now live in California with children Archie, three, and Lilibet, one.
The Netflix series documents the pair’s momentous decision to leave and also features interviews with them and their friends.
In the show, Harry hit out at the “unconscious bias” of racism within the monarchy and Meghan called William and Kate emotionless after hugging them when they first met.
The source added: “Harry and Meghan hope family members and courtiers will watch or, more importantly, listen to their comments. But they know nothing they speak about will be addressed in public.
“They hope it may prompt a greater understanding from the King and the Cambridges of how Harry and Meghan feel about their experiences in England.
“Harry retains hope for a reconciliation. He loves his father and brother, no matter what people think.”
The insider likened Harry’s decision to make the series to his mother’s decision to “speak her truth” about her marriage to Prince Charles in Andrew Morton’s book.
“One of Diana’s reasons for speaking out was to help senior royals have an understanding of the impact on others caught up in the Firm,” said the source. “She and Harry were both brave enough to fight back.”
The first episode of Harry & Meghan was watched by 2.4 million people in Britain last Thursday.
The pair’s deal with the streaming giant is said to be worth £88million.
In the final three episodes due to be released this Thursday, Meghan will describe the rows that led to the Sussexes quitting the Royal Family.
In the trailer, the former Suits star says: “This is when a family and a family business are in direct conflict.”
She and Harry will claim they had “no other option” but to leave royal life behind and move to America.
On Friday, William revealed that he lost a close friend in Kenya on the day the Netflix show aired.
In his first public comment since the documentary’s release, the Prince of Wales tweeted: “Yesterday, I lost a friend who dedicated his life to protecting wildlife in some of East Africa’s most renowned national parks. Mark Jenkins and his son Peter were tragically killed when flying over Tsavo National Park while conducting an aerial patrol.
“Tonight, I’m thinking about Mark’s wife, family and colleagues who’ve lost a man we all loved.”
Harry’s tell-all book called Spare – thought to be a reference to being third in line to the throne – is due to be released in January.
