Royal expert Jennie Bond has said there is now little hope of a reconciliation between Prince Harry and brother William.
She spoke out as details emerged from Harry’s bombshell new memoir, Spare.
They include allegations that William attacked Harry in a row over Meghan. Harry is also reportedly claiming his brother and sister-in-law Kate encouraged him to wear the notorious Nazi uniform he wore to a fancy dress party.
Speaking to GB News Breakfast, Ms Bond said: “The saddest thing is the line saying that at Prince Philip's funeral, Charles stood there at his father's funeral and looked at his sons and looked up. It says in the book he looked at their flushed faces and said: ‘Please boys don't make my final years of misery’.
“And I think that's terribly telling and sad. It's almost a Shakespearean tragedy to the elderly King saying to his sons, please just just cool it, will you? But they won't. I don't think this is going to make it any better."
Speaking to Isabel Webster and Martin Daubney, she continued: “I think we should remember this is one side of the story and so recollections may vary. The allegation that William and Kate told him to wear the Nazi uniform which cast a huge shadow over the Royal Family is a pretty bad one to hand to your brother.
“But it is, ‘he said, she said’. Will that bring William out to respond? It might possibly. I don't know if Harry's telling the truth, it is definitely his truth. But again, I think we all see one side of the story and then this spat, this fisticuffs that they had in the kitchen, we really do need to know William's side of it.
She added: “Did Harry say something to provoke William to put his hands on Harry? They're both very protective of their wives. William had accused Megan of being abrasive, difficult and rude. Did Harry then say something about Katherine? I don't know.
"It's all incredibly unsavoury, it is very immature and it clearly isn't going to help towards the reconciliation, which Harry has suggested he wants. That's the only positive thing that has come out so far.
"Harry for the first time has said he does want his family back, not the institution, but his family. It's a funny way of going about it.”
It comes after Royal fans shared their reactions to Prince Harry's bombshell interview with ITV after trailers dropped on Twitter earlier this week - with some insisting it's 'heartbreaking', while others feel Harry comes off as 'lost and pathetic'.
Harry: The Interview, sees the Prince go into unprecedented depth and detail on life in and out of the Royal Family.
Speaking to ITV News at Ten presenter Tom Bradby, who Harry has known for more than 20 years, the prince shares his personal story in his own words.
The 90-minute special will be broadcast two days before Prince Harry ’s autobiography Spare is published on 10 January as part of a publicity trail for the tell-all tome.
The in-depth interview will cover a range of subjects including his personal relationships, never-before-heard details surrounding the death of his mother, Diana, and a look ahead at his future after quitting the Royal Family alongside wife Meghan Markle .
In the trailer for the bombshell interview with ITV, Harry is heard telling Tom 'it never needed to be this way'.
The Prince is also heard saying that 'they' have shown no interest in reconciling, when speaking about his family, and in particular, his brother William and father, King Charles.
Of Harry's ITV interview, Michael Jermey, ITV Director of News and Current Affairs, said: “It is extremely rare for a member of the Royal Family to speak so openly about their experience at the heart of the institution.
“Tom Bradby’s interview with Prince Harry will be a programme that everyone with an informed opinion on the monarchy should want to watch."
Harry: The Interview is on ITV1 and ITVX at 9pm on January 8
