It must be hard for pupils to know what to call their fellow classmate when the path is set for him to become king of England one day.
Those at school with Prince George are just of the few children to have ever had that problem.
Should they call the third-in-line to the throne by his first name? Or should they go big and call him Your Royal Highness?
It appears though that children at Thomas’s Battersea, in south west London - where he has attended since 2017 - have taken a playful approach to royal traditions and given him a rather adorable nickname.
Prince George's nicknames
Classmates at his primary school reportedly call the young prince “PG”, owing to his “Prince George” initials.
The nickname is said to have been such a hit that it has even taken off at home, with his parents, Prince William and Kate, calling him both "PG" and "Tips" - after the famous British tea brand, PG Tips.
The cute name for George - who turns nine today (July 22 2022) - is actually a slightly different take on royal protocol in the past.
It is tradition that while a royal is at school or while they are working in a professional capacity, they are known by their first name and use their parent's title as a surname.
As a child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, this means that Prince George is known as George Cambridge to his classmates and teachers.
The same goes for his younger siblings as they are known as Charlotte Cambridge and Louis Cambridge.
Prince William and Prince Harry also adopted this tradition during their education and time in the military. They both took the last name of Wales after their father’s title the Prince of Wales.
Prince George’s friends, however, have embraced the royalty in their classmates and given his informal title its own spin.
What other nicknames do the Cambridges have for each other?
Prince George’s younger sister also has a handful of nicknames.
At the 2019 Chelsea Flower Show, Prince William was heard calling to Princess Charlotte to come and give him a push on a swing as they visited the ‘Back to Nature’ garden designed by the Duchess of Cambridge.
But instead of saying 'Charlotte', he called for 'Mignonette'. The French word means "small, sweet, and delicate" or "cute".
Another of the little princess' nicknames was revealed during Prince William and Catherine’s tour of Northern Ireland in 2019.
As they chatted to well-wishers, one woman was asked by Kate about her son.
She told the Daily Mail: "I said he is four and she said 'oh, he's the same age as Lottie' — she calls her Lottie!"
According to Marie Claire, Kate calls husband William “babe” and he is said to call her “darling”.
