Prince George and Princess Charlotte's new surname seen publicly for first time on Queen's funeral order of service

The new surname being used by Prince George and Princess Charlotte was revealed for the first time publicly on the Queen's funeral order of service.

Prince William's children will now be known as they are now to be known as Wales instead of Cambridge, following King Charles III's decision to make their father and mother Prince and Princess of Wales. Growing up, Harry and William were both known with the surname Wales.

Royal expert Angela Mollard said: "This must have been an enormous few days for Catherine. She's taken on a new role herself, but she's also got to teach her very young children. aged nine, seven and four, that their surnames have changed. They are no longer George, Charlotte and Louis Cambridge, they are now George, Charlotte and Louis Wales.

"Any parent will recognise that when you've taught a young child how to spell their name, that's the name they're knowing to among their classmates."

George and Charlotte have recently relocated from their old home in Kensington to Windsor Castle, where they have started at a new school called Lambrook.

Their younger brother Louis was not alongside George and Charlotte as they attended the funeral at Westminster Abbey today. The pair won huge praise for how dignified they had been as they said goodbye to their grandmother, who they called "Gan Gan".

The Queen's coffin has been borne through Horse Guards Parade, where her majesty presided over scores of Trooping the Colour ceremonies during her reign. It has now has entered The Mall, as the funeral procession continues towards Buckingham Palace.

The sombre scene was bathed in sunshine, with the accompanying music of the military bands punctuated by the chimes of Big Ben.
