Prince Andrew 'may be forced to leave Royal Lodge due to a major damp problem'

Prince Andew who is resisting a move into Frogmore Cottage may be forced to leave his Royal Lodge home due to a major damp problem, it is reported.

The Duke of York’s 31-bedroom mansion is understood to need millions of pounds spent on tackling the damp and generally repairing the property.

But Andrew, who is no longer a working member of the Royal Family, is set to have his annual funding of £250,000 taken away from him and it is doubtful he will be able to afford the costs.

It comes as the King has reportedly offered him the keys to Frogmore Cottage after evicting Prince Harry and Meghan.

Andrew though appears to be unhappy at moving from the Royal Lodge, where he has lived for more than 20 years, over what could be seen as downsizing and it would also come with expensive upkeep costs.

The prince is expected to be told by the King to leave the property, where he has had a 75-year lease since 2003, by the summer, despite his reluctance.

But his hopes of staying are complicated by the state of the Royal Lodge which needs serious repair with little work done on it in recent years, it is reported.

He did spend £7.5 million to do up the home when he moved in following the death of the Queen Mother but that is now over 20 years ago.

It is understood that as well as the issues with damp, the roof needs repairing.

An insider told The Sun: “Royal Lodge is in a terrible state and it is falling down. Millions were spent when Andrew moved in but that was 20 years ago. Barely any work has gone on for two decades and people are shocked when they visit.

“There is a serious issue with damp that needs to be rectified and that isn’t cheap on a house of that size. It also needs a new roof.

“Not only does Andrew not have the finances to bring the home up to scratch, it would be uninhabitable when the work is being carried out.”

Meanwhile it is reported that the King is aiming to sort out the problem of Andrew’s home and the eviction of the Sussexes from Frogmore Cottage by the time of his Coronation in May
