Prime Video has announced a new documentary series focusing on the 2022 University of Idaho murders and the subsequent arrest and upcoming trial of Bryan Kohberger. The series, produced by Skydance Television and Story Syndicate, is based on an upcoming nonfiction book by best-selling author James Patterson and journalist Vicky Ward.
The docuseries will be co-directed by Liz Garbus and Matthew Galkin, known for their work on projects like 'Lost Girls' and 'Murder in the Bayou.' Additionally, a scripted series based on the case is in development, with Garbus set to direct the first episode.
The documentary will feature interviews with the families of the victims, shedding light on the lives of Madison Mogen, Ethan Chapin, Kaylee Goncalves, and Xana Kernodle, who tragically lost their lives in the Moscow, Idaho apartment in November 2022. Bryan Kohberger has been charged with the murders and is scheduled to stand trial in 2025.
In a statement, Garbus and Galkin expressed their gratitude for the collaboration with the victims' families, emphasizing the importance of sharing the personal stories of the victims. Skydance TV president Matt Thunell highlighted the significance of the project in uncovering the truth behind the shocking events in Moscow, Idaho.
The documentary and potential scripted series are part of James Patterson's partnership with Skydance TV, which also includes the production of 'Cross,' a series based on Patterson's Alex Cross novels. The project involves a team of executive producers from Skydance TV, James Patterson Entertainment, and Story Syndicate, aiming to provide a comprehensive and respectful portrayal of the tragic events.
