Newcastle United supporters have been reaching for comparisons of FC Barcelona, after Sean Longstaff capped a sensational attacking move to bag his first Newcastle brace against Southampton. The Magpies lead 2-1 at the break at St James' Park, and boast a 3-1 advantage on aggregate.
Kieran Trippier fed Longstaff inside the box for the Newcastle midfielder to dispatch a low finish into the far bottom corner inside five minutes. He then completed his brace by adding the finishing touches to a slick move, which was assisted by a sumptuous low cross by Miguel Almiron.
Che Adams reduced the deficit for the visitors when he unleashed a thunderous low shot from range into the bottom corner against the run of play.
The Newcastle academy graduate had never scored more than one goal in a single game for the Magpies, and had netted just six goals in 121 Newcastle appearances prior to kick-off,
