A Primark customer has vowed never to use the store's unisex changing rooms again after being left scared during a shopping trip. Charlotte Kirby says she was left emotional and scared after men walked in on her twice during a single visit.
She was so shaken by what happened that staff walked her back to her car after her experience. And she claimed in a TikTok post that it wasn't the first time it had happened to customerts at the store, reports Birmingham Live.
Charlotte said while staff were really helpful she was still left emotional after her ordeal. And she called on the store to switch from curtains inside the unisex changing facilities to doors which can be locked.
Posting on TikTok she said: " "I feel really stupid being emotional about this, but I was trying on some clothes, and it was a unisex changing room which I'm really for and I love that because it makes everyone feel included.
"But twice, two men opened the curtain and walked in on me. Luckily both times I was fully clothed, but I could easily not have been. It was two different people clearly from the same group. There was probably 100 changing rooms available. So it wasn't like, 'Oo is someone in here or not?'
"The first time was as they walked in they did it and the second time, was like one of them said to the other, 'Have you tried it on, can I see?' and he opened it." She continued: "I have to say though, Primark have been amazing. They were really really good about it.
"They have walked me back to my car because I was scared. Apparently it's not the first time it's happened. Security are watching back the tapes and trying to find who it is. I just want to say to people please be careful and if you go in the changing room try not to go on your own.
"I would never do that again, I would rather take it home, try it on and get it back and get it refunded. Stay safe." She wrote: "Please be aware/spread the word and stay safe girls. Don’t go in changing rooms alone. This never even crossed my mind when I went into a unisex changing room. Thank you @primark for dealing with this so well. I know worst things could have happened but I still feel very shaken up."
"Unisex training rooms should have propa doors with a lock. I understand why places have unisex but not everyone is innocent unfortunately," Zara replied. User said: "So torn about how I feel about this. I want everyone to feel included and everyone to feel safe at the same time.
Anna said: "Im so sorry this happened I can’t imagine how scary it must’ve been. They really need boarded doors that can lock. Like the ones in JD." Veronica said: "I really hope that your feeling more safe with friends or family after going through that."
A Primark spokesperson said: “We are really sorry to hear of this customer’s experience. It shouldn’t have happened and we’re urgently investigating. We are currently reviewing our approach to fitting rooms in our stores to ensure these are always safe and inclusive spaces for everyone.”
