Primark click and collect could soon be happening when revamped website launches

Primark has hinted that it could offer a ‘click and collect’ service, but confirmed it would not offer delivery.

The high street retailer, which is hugely popular in Liverpool, confirmed last year it would launch a new website where shoppers could not only see which new items are available but also if it is in stock in their local stores. Now it's possible that shoppers may also be given the option to order via click and collect.

Primark is on track to launch a revamped customer-facing website in the UK by the end of March. The website will allow customers to see what clothes are in stores right now, instead of just a preview like on its current website.

Primark has yet to officially confirm if it will allow shoppers to click and collect orders when its new website launches, reports the Mirror. John Bason, finance director of Primark’s owner, Associated British Foods, told Reuters: “We’re making the digital move forward in a very big way in both the UK and the rest of Europe.

“That will generate sales and profits for us. Does this give us a capability to move further forward? Well let’s have a look at that. If there was an e-commerce opportunity for us, it will probably be more in the area of click-and-collect.”

However, Mr Bason ruled out offering home delivery, saying that it wouldn’t be financially viable for the business. He added: “You can’t get our value by delivery to home, it’s as simple as that”.

Despite calls from shoppers during the coronavirus lockdowns, Primark has remained adamant that it won't start selling its clothing online. While awaiting the new website, shoppers can continue to use social media to get a sneak peek of what new ranges are in store. For Liverpool, there's a dedicated page from its Visual Merchandising team that offers a look inside the store.
