Pride is coming to Newport for the very first time. Newport Pride, called Pride In The Port, is running its event over the first weekend of September. With the great weather we've been having and the pandemic's restrictions finally lifted, there couldn't be a better time for the event to make its debut in Newport.
Dragon Taxis is working close with Pride organisers to help attendees get to the event safely and on time. Here are the details we know about Pride In the Port.
Where is it being held?
The event is being held at Belle Vue Park. The full address is 33 Waterloo Road, Newport, NP20 4FP. With the park featuring a beautiful bandstand, mature trees and plenty of space, it's the perfect venue to host the weekend's planned events and acts. After the event at the park, the celebration is set to continue into the night at various bars and pubs in the city. On the Saturday and Sunday, the event has teamed up with venues Atlantica, Pen and Wig, Hogarths, Le Pub, McCanns and Crosskeys. These events have age restrictions in place and people wishing to attend are advised to contact venues prior.
When is it happening?
The weekend event takes place on September 3 and 4, 2022.
How much is it?
The event is free! Just turn up on the day you want. You'll have to pay to enter certain venues after the event ends.
Who is there?
The really cool thing about this event is that nearly all the acts are local Welsh talent. On the main stage, expect the likes of Welsh drag acts such as Ruby Slippers and more. There will be performances from the likes of Newport City Radio, DJ Kim, Fusion Dance and Kyle Finn. Baroness Debbie Wilcox of Newport will also be there at the event to give a talk on the importance of the event taking place. More information can be found via their website here.
