People who smoke will have to pay considerably more for cigarettes from as soon as this evening after the Chancellor announced a huge hike in tobacco duty.
As part of today's Budget, Jeremy Hunt said the cigarette levy is to rise by 12.7% in line with the Retail Price Index (RPI) plus an extra 2% on top of this. The rate of hand-rolling tobacco will increase by the RPI figure plus 6%.
The increases will come into force from 6pm this evening (Wednesday), the Mirror reports.
