Blasts from the past will go down Memory Lane to mark the 50th anniversary of Prestwick Cricket Club’s historic day.
Players from the title winning team of 1972 are being invited to the Henry Thow Oval on Saturday, June 25.
The side, which was skippered by former Rangers penalty king Johnny Hubbard, won the Glasgow and District League, the first major honour in the club’s history.
Hubby, who has a memorial bench in his honour at the ground, later proclaimed that despite all his footballing honours, the Prestwick triumph rated as one of his best sporting achievements.
The celebration will take part alongside the West Premier game against Ferguslie and will include a beer tent being set up at the ground.
The club will contact players from the title winning squad to join them. They ask anyone who they are unable to track down to get in touch.
Furthest travelled will be prolific wicket-taker and seam bowler Alan Appleby who will fly in from his home in Canada.
Father and son combinations ran through the Prestwick ranks. Hubby’s son Raymond played in the title team while regulars Alan Parsons and Drew Carlyle were followed down the years by their offsprings Drew and David.
The win was the launchpad for Prestwick to establish themselves as one of Scotland’s premier clubs.
The title was retained the following season and won again before Prestwick joined the Scottish Counties Championship which they clinched in 1990 and 1991 with David Haggo as captain.
They were Scottish League First Division champions in 1999 and 2002 before their biggest triumph in 2017 when they were the first West side to become Scottish Grand Finalist winners with current president Shahzad Rafiq as skipper.
