Football fans were full of praise for President Michael D Higgins after his appearance on Friday night's Late Late Show.
An avid football fan, President Higgins used his interview with Ryan Tubridy to promote the League of Ireland as he urged people to get out and support their local teams.
Speaking on the RTE show after presenting a number of former Ireland internationals with FAI centenary medals, the Galway United fan said: "We must all support, not only the great international soccer, but the league.
"After Covid it is one of the most important things. I'm hoping to rearrange my Friday visits to different venues all around the country."
And fans loved that President Higgins promoted the domestic league on the show.
One said: "Great League of Ireland endorsement from Michael D."
Another commented: "The President using the FAI’s televised birthday hooley to call for more promotion of the League of Ireland."
Someone else added: "Fair play Michael D giving the League of Ireland a mention. Its not only the FAI celebrating a centenary."
Later on Friday night's show, viewers loved Paul McGrath's appearance alongside Jack Charlton's son John.
Speaking of his relationship with the legendary manager, McGrath said: "He knew I was a little bit different because I would end up on a train I wasn't supposed to be on - or it could have been a plane - and he always forgave me, always wanted me back on the team.
"I always wanted to play because we had a great rapport with each other. John and Peter (Jack Charlton's sons) used to come with us to come with us as part of the team.
"I loved it because, for me, it was the best ten years of my life."
