US President Joe Biden made an embarrassing blunder when he read "repeat the line" from a TV teleprompter during a speech.
The error has seen him likened to Will Ferrell's character Ron Burgundy in the Anchorman movies.
Biden had just signed an order to 'safeguard abortion access' when the faux-pas happened.
Reading from the script, the president said: “‘Women are not without electoral or political power.
"It is noteworthy that the percentage of women who register to vote and cast a ballot is consistently higher than the percentage of the men who do so. End of quote. Repeat the line.
"Women are not without electoral...or political power."
Republican strategist Greg Price scoffed at the mistake and criticised Biden on Twitter.
He then compared the error to the character Ron Burgundy from Anchorman - a fictional TV news presenter who frequently made mistakes on air.
In the film Burgundy is unable to distinguish between his news script and notes which are made for him alone.
The president's assistant press secretary Emilie Simons leapt to his defence on Twitter.
She insisted Biden misreading an instruction out loud was actually correct.
Simons said: "No. He said, "let me repeat that line."
Tesla boss Elon Musk shared a meme of a scene from Anchorman and wrote: "Whoever controls the teleprompter is the real President!"
In the image, the text reads: "For the last time, anything you put on that teleprompter, Burgundy will read."
