President-elect Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance attended the annual Army-Navy game in Landover, Maryland, on Saturday, bringing along high-profile guests for the 125th meeting of the Black Knights and Midshipmen.
Trump was accompanied by Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth, while Vance's guest was Marine veteran Daniel Penny. Also in attendance were House Speaker Mike Johnson, Trump's director of national intelligence pick Tulsi Gabbard, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
Penny, recently acquitted in the subway chokehold death case of Jordan Neely in New York City, faced up to 15 years in prison but was cleared of all charges. Hegseth, still seeking Senate confirmation for the defense role, received public support from Trump at the game.
Trump's nominee has denied misconduct allegations but settled a 2017 incident with an accuser. He pledged abstinence from alcohol if confirmed. House Speaker Mike Johnson and Elon Musk were also seen in Trump's box.
Vance criticized New York City prosecutors for targeting Penny, praising his courage and inviting him to the game. The clash between the two football programs this season has added excitement to the rivalry match, with the winner set to claim the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy.
Trump, a regular attendee at the game, appeared as president in 2018, 2019, and 2020, and as president-elect in 2016. President Biden has not attended as president but did so as vice president.
