President Joe Biden welcomed U.S. Olympians and Paraolypians at the White House on Monday to honor their achievements in the recent games in Paris. During the event on the South Lawn, Biden praised the athletes for embodying the spirit of America and serving as role models for the nation's youth.
Biden humorously mentioned that his staff had been keeping him updated on Team USA's performance at the Olympics while he was juggling national security briefings. He also acknowledged the Olympians who have served in the armed forces and emphasized the importance of providing more support to all American athletes.
Although he was unable to attend the Paris games due to concerns about causing disruptions, Biden expressed his eagerness to attend the 2028 Olympic games in Los Angeles when the U.S. will be hosting. He playfully remarked that since he won't be president at that time, no one can prevent him from attending.
