President Joe Biden engaged in individual conversations with the leaders of Turkey, Norway, Poland, Slovenia, and Germany on Thursday to express gratitude for their collaboration in the groundbreaking prisoner exchange with Russia, as per the White House.
The prisoner swap involved the release of two dozen detainees, including Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, former US Marine Paul Whelan, and Russian-American journalist Alsu Kurmasheva.
The White House stated on Thursday that the President conveyed his thanks for their assistance during the intricate negotiations and active involvement in the process that led to this significant release.
Prior to these calls, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan had mentioned that President Biden would be reaching out to those involved in the prisoner exchange. Sullivan commended the President for his adept statecraft in handling the situation.
