President Joe Biden’s high command is projecting a determination to press forward with the president’s reelection campaign, even as Democrats’ public calls on Biden to drop out of the race grow by the day.
Independent Sen. Joe Manchin joined other lawmakers on Sunday in encouraging Biden to “pass the torch” to a new generation of leadership. However, during a call on Saturday with the co-chairs of the president’s campaign, there was no discussion of Biden leaving the race, according to sources. Rep. Jim Clyburn emphasized the need for Democrats to “coalesce” around Biden.
Biden campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond reiterated the president’s intention to accept the Democratic nomination and see his reelection bid through. Richmond stated, “He’s made a decision, and that decision is to accept the nomination and run for reelection, win reelection.”
Senior-most West Wing advisers have not discussed the possibility of Biden abandoning his candidacy, according to a source. Biden, who is recovering from Covid-19 at his home in Rehoboth Beach, has been in touch with his advisers, including longtime aide Steve Ricchetti.
Despite the growing calls for him to step aside, Biden remains resolute in his decision to continue his reelection campaign. The focus now shifts to addressing the threat posed by Donald Trump and countering the extreme agenda of the opposition.
