TV and radio presenter Paul O'Grady has jokingly been told to move house by fans after he shared a gruesome looking artefact found while gardening. The former Lily Savage creator posted his discovery on Instagram, to the horror of some.
Paul, 66, from Birkenhead, uncovered a murky glass jar containing a lock of plaited hair. On his Instagram page he posted a photo of it and called it 'odd' and 'creepy'.
And he wasn't the only one, as several of his 688k followers weighed in with their thoughts in the comments. Paul's post said: "Digging around the back of the garden this was dug up. It’s a small bottle containing a lock of hair that has been twisted into a plait.
"The hair looks red but whatever liquid is in the bottle might have discoloured it over the years. I haven’t opened it and have no intention of doing so, in fact I’m going to bury it again as it’s not only odd but slightly creepy. Any ideas what it is?"
Celebrity chef Andi Oliver reacted, saying: "Holy s***! Yes get that BACK in the ground quick snap!! Yikes!!", before adding: "That’s def [sic] some old magic power s*** … back in the ground!!"
Mo Crowley said: "Jeez! Bury it deep!", while Lisa Alderson said: "Put your house up for sale!" Siobhan said: "Wouldn't want that anywhere near me, it's probably cursed or something."
Later on, Paul issued an update to his many followers. He said: "Thanks for all your comments about this, whatever it is I’ve buried it in the woods. It’s a super moon tonight and my birthday tomorrow so I’m not taking any chances!"
One follower suggested what the jar could be. Angie Kew said: "It's a 'witch bottle'... supposed to protect... it started in the 17th century and jars or bottles were filled with wee and had hair/nail clippings added."
