With two wide receivers ruled out for Sunday, Marquise Goodwin and David Bell, the Browns have called up Austin Watkins Jr. from the practice squad. It was a great preseason for Watkins, who made big catch after big catch that left fans wanting him on the active roster.
With the injuries at the position, as well as the trade of Donovan Peoples-Jones, Watkins could see the field on Sunday. He is a big-bodied wide receiver with solid body control and good physicality to make the tough catches in close coverage. In total, he had 16 catches for 257 yards and two touchdowns in the preseason.
In addition to Watkins, the Browns are calling up a familiar face, A.J. Green III, with the injuries at the cornerback position. Green has been with the team for several seasons and has provided some quality starts at times when the team has dealt with injuries before and can play some in the slot if Greg Newsome II can’t play.
