Premier Sports Cup round-up as Simon Murray hits hat-trick and Partick Thistle edge out win

Simon Murray netted a hat-trick for Queen's Park as they got their Premier Sports Cup Group H campaign underway with a 5-2 win at Stranraer.

Grant Savoury bagged a double for the Spiders with Scott Robertson and Scott McLean replying for the home side. It was former Dundee United and Hibs striker Murray though who stole the show with a fine first half hat-trick during a crazy 45 minutes that ended at 4-2.

Brian Graham meanwhile toasted his new contract at Partick Thistle by scoring a goal and notching an assist in their Group B match at Stenhousemuir. Kyle Turner opened the scoring after a knockdown by the veteran forward but Matty Yates levelled for the Warriors.

Graham made sure that his side returned to Glasgow with three points ahead of Wednesday's televised trip to Kilmarnock with a header off a Jack McMillan cross in the second half.

Moving joint-first in their group, boss Ian McCall said: "It should have been more comfortable but there was a lot to like about how we passed the ball and moved it around.”

Queen's meanwhile host Forfar Athletic on Tuesday. They are joint-first with Dundee in their section and narrowly sit top on goal difference.

Manager Owen Coyle said: "I think it was always going to be a tough game, but we thoroughly deserved the win and scored some fantastic goals."
