The Premier League gameweek began with one of its heavyweight clashes.
Meetings between Arsenal and Manchester United might not mean as much as they have in the past but, with both clubs in the battle to qualify for next season’s Champions League, Saturday’s early kick-off saw Mikel Arteta’s side take a huge step forward after a 3-1 win.
Manchester City then took their chance to ensure they finish yet another weekend at the League’s summit when battered Watford 5-1 at the Etihad. A derby between Leicester City and Aston Villa yielded no goals, while in-form Newcastle’s beat Norwich City.
Brentford then hosted top-four chasing Tottenham in the late kick-off, with the game ending 0-0.
Sunday saw Chelsea, in a crisis of late, welcome West Ham to Stamford Bridge and earn a late victory. The relentless Liverpool were made to work against Everton at Anfield but secured a hard-fought win to keep up the pressure on Man City. Finally, United and Chelsea played out a draw on Thursday.
