Premier League clubs are reportedly set to agree to the five substitutions rule being permitted from next season in a meeting on Thursday. The issue is set to be voted on once again at a Premier League stakeholders meeting in London.
According to The Times, from the start of next season, each team will be allowed to make up to five replacements during a game, if the vote does indeed go ahead. The so-called 'bigger' teams have been in favour of this all season, but the 'smaller' sides were against it, feeling as if it gives the wealthier clubs an advantage.
As it stands, the Premier League is the only division out of the top five European leagues to restrict substitutes to just three per-game, but that might not be for too much longer. There are also set to be a total of nine players included on the bench following the upcoming rule change.
